OldGuy

Well...it is entirely too soon to be doing this again...

We had to take OldGuy in to the vet and have him helped across the Bridge this morning... 4-12-2000, at 11 a.m....he was about 6 yrs. old...

We got him from Ferrets Unlimited Ferret Shelter on Dec. 30, 1999. He was considered "unadoptable" because he had so little time left... He had had a 'botched' adrenal surgery before coming to Jean...

and we knew we only had a little time with him...but we loved him so much!!!!

He started losing weight a few weeks ago...so i started supplimenting his TF with canned food...it worked for a couple weeks...

then he quit eating on his own a few days ago...so i went to 'syringe' feeding...then last night he refused even that...

i was still unsure if it was time..i didn't want it to be...:) FerretFanatic...Vicki...sent me the URL to a site "Letting Go". and there in black and white were all the symptoms... OldGuy was telling me "it's time"...

so i called Jean to tell her, and she said to let him know it was ok to go...and to give him her love...

and then this morning we took him in to the vet... he is at peace now...

we buried OldGuy by our back steps...in the sleeve of my red robe that he loved so much...we planted white tulips and a white hyacinth above him and made a marker with his b'date and today's date and that we will miss him...

So LittleWhiteGirl, please welcome OldGuy...and for Heaven's Sake!!! ... be nicer to him now, at the Bridge, than you were here!!!!

        we love you, OldGuy...Good-bye...

        kat

I will never forget his "sunny" face. He always showed joy in whatever he was doing. I can still see his face, neck craned all the way back, it looked like his head was attached to his back...LOL...looking up at me for his Ferretone or Nutri-cal or Banana-Raisin treat. That will be forever imprinted on my brain. I will see that every time i think of him...:)

A little guy came in later. He said hiz name waz OldGuy. He waz met by Marcel and LittleWhiteGirl. There must have been some bad blood between them or something. There waz a terrible fight with Marcel playing referee. OldGuy is a little younger and probably stronger than he waz back there. They kinda fought to a stalemate and then agreed to be friends. They went off together to get a snack cause they said fighting made them hungry. Come to think of it, it always made me hungray too. They headed for da Fruit Bar and then over to da Babyfood Balconey to refuel. He said to tell hiz mommy dat he luved her and send lots of kisses.

Darling this is just to soon to be suffering this hurt, when we know that you haven't even gotten over LittleWhiteGirl. PLEASE, know that I'm sitting here crying for/with you. Kat, we are so very sorry. We prayed and asked our guys to help be there along with yours to show Old Guy the way. Words can't begin to express how we feel. Take comfort in the fact he is playing like he's a kit again......we love you!!!!

Kat, I was so sorry to hear about Old Guy. I'm so glad he found you to share his time left on Earth. I'm sure you taught him the meaning of love, so that he can shine down his love from above.

        This is for Old Guy.

        Joy was shared anew.
Old Guy found a loving friend,
        Now his can shine down.

        HUGS!!!...I am so sorry, Sandy!!!

        To: Kat & Family,
We are so sorry to hear that Old Guy has left. He may have been with you only a short time (aren't they always?) but he left knowing what love and caring were about. He is now with Little White Girl so that she will not feel alone or afraid. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

        Happenings at Rainbow Bridge

Ferrets impatiently hiding along the sides of the Rainbow Bridge. The air is charged with excitement. As OldGuy starts to cross over they all tingle with anticipation. A few chortles and the soft fluttering sounds of tails gently wagging against the bridge are heard. OldGuy is intrigued by the sounds not knowing what awaits him.

OldGuy stops, eyes wide, and listens - but now all is silent. As OldGuy crosses over to the other side there is an explosion of furry bodies, including LittleWhiteGirl, a ll dancing, jumping, rolling, and playing, drawing OldGuy into their inner circle. The love and joyfulness in their little hearts envelops OldGuy. Soon all settles down and the "oldsters" explain the waiting process to OldGuy.

OldGuy is ever so gently groomed by the others to ease the pain of loss of living companions. OldGuy is consumed by their love. They are all one big loving family anxiously awaiting the next newcomer and in the end, their own humans.

        Warm gentle hugs. tle
